The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) staged a protest in Dhaka on Sunday to denounce the breach of Bangladesh’s Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Tripura, by a group of people last week. The protestors marched towards the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, demanding action over the incident. The incident occurred when a group of people, upset by the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, entered the consulate’s premises and vandalized it. India described the breach as deeply regrettable and expressed regret over the event. On Sunday, BNP’s student, youth, and voluntary wings organized the protest march. However, police stopped the group before they could reach the Indian High Commission. A six-member delegation, including senior leaders from BNP’s different wings, was allowed to hand over a memorandum to an official at the mission. Abdul Monayem Munna, President of BNP’s youth wing, expressed the party’s disapproval of the attack, stating that while they believe in peace and patience, they would not tolerate aggression. The protestors also raised slogans demanding the extradition of Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from India and a boycott of Indian goods. The protest led to heightened security around Dhaka’s diplomatic enclave, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.
