Bangladesh, China sign key agreements in Beijing

Bangladesh and China have signed nine agreements during the visit of Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to Beijing. These agreements include one on economic and technical cooperation, along with eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering areas such as cultural exchange, media, sports, and health.
The agreements were signed in the presence of Yunus and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Among the key announcements made were the launching of formal investment negotiations, a commercial deal for the modernization of Mongla Port, and a project for building a robot physiotherapy and rehabilitation center. Bangladesh also reaffirmed its commitment to the One-China policy, supporting China's stance on Taiwan.
Yunus and Xi discussed several important bilateral matters, including trade, investment, and water resource management. They also explored the possibility of Chinese involvement in the Teesta River management project in Bangladesh. Yunus highlighted the 50-year anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations, calling it a historic milestone.
Xi Jinping expressed his support for Yunus’ government and assured that China would encourage investments in Bangladesh. The Chinese President also promised to support projects such as the development of the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone (CEIZ) in Chattogram and the Teesta River project.
The visit marked an important step in strengthening the already strong ties between Bangladesh and China, with both sides showing optimism for deepening their cooperation in various sectors.
