Former Awami League MP Sabina Akter Tuhin was arrested early Monday in Dhaka on multiple charges related to the July 2024 protests. Her arrest is part of a wider crackdown by the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government on former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s party.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch Joint Commissioner Nasirul Islam confirmed Tuhin, who represented Dhaka-14, faces several cases, including one linked to a murder during the July unrest.

In a separate incident, former Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) Managing Director Mohammad Monirul Moula was arrested late Sunday in Dhaka's Bashundhara area over a corruption case. Appointed in 2021 under Hasina’s government, Moula is accused in a BDT 1,092 crore loan fraud case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission last December. He was earlier put on forced leave after the central bank reshaped IBBL’s board.

The arrests are seen as part of a politically charged campaign, drawing criticism over democratic backsliding and alleged support for extremist groups.
