Supporters of the Awami League staged a surprise rally in Khulna on Sunday morning despite warnings from the interim government to avoid such activities. This flash procession was the first in the region since the Awami League lost power last year.

Led by the Khulna District Unit, the protesters held banners featuring former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. They chanted slogans in support of Hasina, such as "Sheikh Hasina will return like a hero."

The protest came a day after Home Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury warned police to stop such demonstrations or face action. Khulna police said protesters jumped from a vehicle, marched quickly, and escaped before police could intervene. Authorities are now identifying those involved.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh has asked Interpol to issue a red notice against Hasina and 11 others. The charges relate to a plot to overthrow the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. Once approved, this notice would help find and detain the accused abroad.

Hasina, who fled the country on August 5, 2024, is believed to be living in India. She is facing more than 100 cases, including charges of mass murder and corruption. Many of her former ministers have either been arrested or gone into hiding to avoid trial.
