7 TTP Militants killed in Pakistan
Peshawar
Seven TTP militants, including three inmates who are awaiting trial, were shot and killed by Pakistani security personnel on Tuesday in the unrest-ridden Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa region, according to authorities. The terrorists had earlier opened fire on a security team.
On Monday, terrorists attacked a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) squad that was transporting arrested militants associated with the prohibited group to the province's Bannu area. A CTD official confirmed this. Three convicts were among the seven terrorists who were killed in the gun battle that followed the raid, which was intended to release the jailed inmates. Other insurgents managed to flee.
According to the official, those slain were complicit in prior assaults on the security troops. They were sought after for assaulting the Bannu Cantonment police and killing a constable intentionally.
More than 100 people, including police officers, were killed in a suicide attack on a mosque in this area last month. The organization, which is thought to be affiliated with Al-Qaeda, has been held accountable for a number of violent attacks that have killed people throughout Pakistan, including an attack on the army headquarters in 2009, robberies at military installations, and the 2008 bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad.
