A deadly Ukrainian rocket strike on the town of Rylsk in Russia's Kursk region has killed at least six people, including a child, and left eight others injured. The attack, which took place on Friday evening, targeted civilian sites and public facilities, according to regional authorities.

Kursk's Acting Governor, Alexander Khinshtein, condemned the attack, accusing Ukraine of deliberately targeting peaceful areas. He confirmed that five adults and one child had died in the strike, which was reportedly carried out using U.S.-made HIMARS rockets. Among the injured were eight people, including a teenager, who were hospitalized for treatment.

Emergency response teams rushed to the scene as several buildings and vehicles were severely damaged in the attack. Videos from the site showed cars engulfed in flames and significant destruction to infrastructure. Local officials reported that around 15 strikes hit the town, impacting facilities used by residents.

In a statement, Khinshtein vowed that those responsible for the attack would face retribution, adding that Russia’s army and law enforcement agencies would take all necessary actions.

While Russia’s Defence Ministry and the Kremlin have yet to comment on the incident, no statement from Ukraine has been issued either. The attack follows Russia's missile strike on Kyiv earlier the same day, which was seen as retaliation for a previous Ukrainian strike on a chemical plant in Russia.
