Myanmar seizes over 300,000 stimulant tablets
Yangon
Myanmar authorities have made significant drug seizures in recent weeks. On January 14, police in Yangon’s Hlaing township confiscated 20 kg of methamphetamine, also known as Ice, following a tip-off. Two days later, 366,000 stimulant tablets were seized in Hlegu township, with the owner arrested in Nay Pyi Taw on January 17. The total value of the seized drugs was approximately 866 million kyats ($412,380).
Earlier, on January 16, a joint anti-narcotics task force intercepted a vehicle in Shan state’s Kengtung township and seized 966,000 stimulant tablets valued at over 380 million kyats ($180,000). These drugs were believed to be trafficked from Mong Ping to Tachileik township in Shan state.
This follows a previous seizure on January 4, when authorities confiscated 60 kg of methamphetamine in Shan state, valued at 480 million kyats ($228,571). In all cases, suspects have been charged under Myanmar’s narcotics laws, with investigations ongoing.
