The police have recovered six firearms, including an AK-56 rifle and a revolver, that were used by six Naxals who recently surrendered. These weapons were hidden in the Megoor forest located in the Koppa taluk. Before their surrender, the Naxals were reportedly hiding in the Megoor forest and had held their last meeting there prior to presenting themselves to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

During the discussions surrounding their surrender, the issue of handing over their weapons was raised. In light of this, a team led by Inspector Manjunath from the Koppa police station conducted a search over the past two days, ultimately locating the weapons. Sources within the police indicated that the firearms were found at the same location where the Naxals had last gathered.

The recovered weapons include one AK-56, three .303 rifles, one 12 bore SBBL shotgun, and one homemade pistol, bringing the total to six firearms. Additionally, authorities seized 11 rounds of 7.62 mm AK ammunition and 133 rounds for the .303 rifle, amounting to a total of 176 live rounds. A case has been registered at the Jayapura police station under Sections 25(1b), 7, and 25(1a) of the Arms Act 1959.

In related news, the Congress government recently announced a new Naxal surrender package for 2024, which states that any Naxal who surrenders and hands over their weapons to the government will receive financial compensation for each weapon surrendered.
