Waterfalls from Kalladka flyover spark motorists’ ire
MANGALURU
The recently partially opened Kalladka flyover on the Mangaluru–Bengaluru national highway has sparked frustration among motorists as rainwater pours down from the elevated structure onto vehicles below.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) opened a section of the six-lane flyover last month to ease traffic congestion. However, unfinished drainage work has caused rainwater to cascade onto the service roads beneath, inconveniencing drivers.
Social media users have shared videos jokingly calling the flyover a free car wash, with some motorists positioning their vehicles under the falling water. “You don’t need to pay Rs 300-400 for a car wash here,” one netizen quipped.
Officials confirmed that pipeline connections to properly channel the water are still in progress. MP Capt Brijesh Chowta assured the public that the remaining work would be completed soon, addressing all concerns.
Since the flyover’s opening, traffic congestion in Kalladka has significantly reduced, but locals urge the NHAI to expedite the completion of the project to avoid further inconvenience, especially as thousands of vehicles pass this route daily.
