Villagers oppose water supply to Gowribidanur from Amani Lake

The controversy surrounding the project to channel water from Amani Lake in Watadahosahalli to Gowribidanur town has escalated, with the villagers firmly opposing any plans to divert water to Gowribidanur.
Local farmers are continuously fighting for the preservation of Amani Lake's water. On Friday night members of Watadahosahalli struggle committee organized a procession to express their anger against MLA Puttaswamy Gowda.
The procession involved carrying traditional vessels from the village to the lake, with farmers marching about four kilometers to protest against the water diversion plans.
Villagers said the water from Watadahosahalli Amani Lake serves as a lifeline for hundreds of villagers , hence we oppose to the idea of using the lake's water for drinking purposes to Gowribidanur. Farmers expressed their outrage toward MLA Puttaswamy Gowda for supporting project.
The population of city crossed 50 thousand at present , we face difficulties to supply water, City Municipal Council Commissioner B Geetha told City Highlights on Saturday. Muneshwara, Vinayaka, Gundapura and Gotakanathapura wards of town facing acute shortage of water we entirely depending upon 136 bore wells as there is no other source.
The state government sanctioned Rs 61 crore to supply water from Amani lake to city, KUWSSB AEE BN Latha told City Highlights. As government plans to fill water to all lakes from Ettinahole project villagers no need to panic , but they wont listen ‘’ she added.
The project will be operational only after getting water from Ettinahole project, MLA Putta Swamy Gowda told City Highlights. I have no intention to snatch water from villagers to city people. I urge the villagers who opposing project should know the details of project before opposing. he added.
