With rising temperatures in the taluk, snakes are emerging from their burrows more frequently. The alarming trend has resulted in 93 snake bite incidents being recorded in Gauribidanur and an additional 8 in Manchenahalli over the past year, leading to the tragic deaths of five individuals.

According to officials, the majority of snake bites have involved the highly venomous Cobra and Russell's Viper. The increasing heat has driven snakes from cooler areas in search of more suitable environments.

Farmers are particularly vulnerable, experiencing higher instances of snake bites while irrigating their fields or cutting fodder for livestock. Furthermore, snakes have been spotted in urban areas, including roads, residential water bodies, and even within compounds and shoes.

As the summer progresses, it is expected that the number of snake bite incidents will rise. In response to this issue, each primary health center in the taluk has stocked 10 vials of anti-snake venom serum.

Despite citizens expressing their frustrations regarding the municipal authorities' lack of action to curb the stray dog menace, no measures have been implemented yet. Public pressure is mounting for the local government to address this urgent health and safety issue.

Forest Range Officer Yallappa cautioned, farmers must remain vigilant as snakes are increasingly visible due to the heat. It is essential for the public, especially farmers working outdoors, to exercise caution, as Cobras and Russell's Vipers are highly venomous.

Dr. Chandra Mohan Reddy,   Taluk Health Officer, assured that anti-snake venom is available at primary health centers to treat snake bite cases. He urged rural farmers to work carefully and be aware of their surroundings to avoid snake encounters.
