Incident of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah attempting to physically assault Deputy Superintendent of Police Narayan Bharamani reported. An RTI activist, Bhimaappa Gada, has filed a complaint with the Camp Police Station and the National Human Rights Commission on Thursday.

The incident occurred during a Congress rally held in the city on February 28th to protest the central government's price hike policies. Under the leadership of Dharwad's ASP Narayan Bharamani, police personnel were deployed for security. During the event, while the Chief Minister was speaking on stage, BJP workers stormed the platform and started protesting, causing chaos. Enraged by this, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reportedly attempted to physically attack Narayan Bharamani.

According to the complaint, instead of fulfilling his responsibilities as a responsible public servant, Siddaramaiah used derogatory language and threatened the officer with violence, attempting to intimidate him and undermine his confidence. It is alleged that as the legislative head, Siddaramaiah's behavior is against the constitutional principles.

The complaint states that the incident took place in the presence of several ministers and party workers, creating an atmosphere of fear among senior and junior officials of various departments in the state. The complainant has attached video footage, news reports, and other evidence related to the incident, and has invoked Section 132 of the Indian Penal Code (2023) to seek action against Siddaramaiah.

Under Section 132 of the Indian Penal Code (2023), any person who assaults or uses force against a public servant performing their duty, or in order to prevent them from performing their lawful duty, can be punished with imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both.

This incident has raised serious concerns about the conduct of public officials and the respect for constitutional offices in the state, with calls for appropriate legal action.
