A cleric Maulvi Mufti Mustaq has been arrested in connection with the stone-pelting incident related to the Udayagiri police station, accused of inciting violence. The CCB (Criminal Investigation Department) police arrested Maulvi Mustaq on Thursday, marking his arrest 11 days after the riots occurred.

Public and opposition pressure had been mounting for the arrest of the defendant, and the CCB police have finally succeeded in apprehending him.

BJP leader Pratap Simha condemned the government’s failure to arrest the accused in the stone-pelting case, comparing the Karnataka Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to the Taliban. He questioned how the government could prevent Hindus from leaving their homes in fear, while saying that they should act decisively in situations where Muslims sought security. City Ravi also expressed his outrage against the government.

Following the BJP's overwhelming victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, a young man shared a post on social media that acted as a precursor to the riots. The post featured images of politicians Rahul Gandhi, former Chief Ministers Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal, along with a provocative message that disrespected a particular religion. As the post went viral, Udayagiri police registered a case on their own initiative and took the accused into custody.

During this period, a group gathered in front of the police station and suddenly began to chant, throwing stones at police vehicles, the police station, and the police officers. Horrific CCTV footage from the incident later went viral. Maulvi Mufti Mustaq is accused of inciting the stone-pelting violence.
