Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), launched inaugural vessel of the series of six 3800 TDW General Cargo Vessels being built for Wilson ASA, Norway. This launch is in line with the CSL group's commitment to the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative, as well as the Make in India and Make for the World programmes of the govt of India.
Martine Aamdal Bottheim, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Royal Norwegian Embassy launched the vessel, accompanied by Einar Tornes, Chief Financial Officer of Wilson ASA.
Madhu S Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of CSL, Bejoy Bhaskar, Director (Technical) at Cochin Shipyard, A Harikumar, Chief Executive Officer at UCSL and other senior personnel from the shipyard were present.
Wilson ASA, a company headquartered in Bergen, Norway, is the leading short sea fleet operator in Europe and transports about 15 million tonnes of dry cargo across Europe.
Since the takeover of the yard by CSL, UCSL successfully delivered two 62T Bollard Pull Tugs to Ocean Sparkle Limited, an Adani Harbor Services Limited company, and two 70T Bollard Pull Tugs to Polestar Maritime Limited. UCSL also received further orders of four 70T Bollard Pull Tugs as repeat orders from Ocean Sparkle Limited and Polestar Maritime Limited.
The vessel has a length of 89.4m, breadth-13.2m, draft -4.2m and speed of 10.3 knots. The vessels, designed by Conoship International, Netherlands, are constructed as environmentally friendly diesel-electric vessels for the transport of general cargo in the coastal waters of Europe. The vessel, with a propulsion power of 750KW, is propelled by two electrical motors of 375KW each. The vessel is powered by three diesel generators of 416KW each and has accommodation for seven personnel.
