Tourist information center to be reopened at Gadag
Gokarna
The place known as the South Kashi, is a renowned pilgrimage and tourist destination located in the Kumta taluk of Uttara Kannada district. Each year, lakhs of tourists from across the country and abroad visit Gokarna to experience its spiritual and natural beauty. Visitors often explore not only the famous temples but also venture to surrounding scenic beaches and attractions, including Om Beach, Kudle Beach, Paradise Beach, Half Moon Beach, and other popular spots around Gokarna.
However, until recently, there was a lack of reliable information for tourists regarding where to go, which locations are risky, and what the geographical conditions are like. Over 20 years ago, a Tourist Information Center was established in Gokarna, but it was closed later due to staff shortages.
Now, driven by the interest of Uttara Kannada District Superintendent of Police M. Narayan, the Tourist Information Center has been re-established, and it was officially inaugurated on Wednesday.
The newly opened Tourist Information Center is located at a prime spot in Gokarna, with a dedicated staff member working there daily. Additionally, CCTV cameras have been installed at 33 key locations around Gokarna, and their maintenance is managed from this center. The purpose of these initiatives is to enhance tourist safety, monitor crowd movements, and prevent criminal activities through surveillance.
Furthermore, there was no accurate record of the number of tourists arriving in Gokarna before. Now, with the center situated at the entry point of Gokarna, officials aim to accurately track daily tourist influx. Manjunath Naavi, the District Tourism Officer of Uttara Kannada, mentioned that this setup will help in better managing tourist flow and ensuring safety.
