Tragedy struck during the celebrations of Ugadi when three young men drowned in the Krishna River near the Almatti Dam railway bridge. The incident happened as they ventured to the river for a ceremonial bath as part of the festival.

Among the three, the body of 15-year-old Somasekhara Bommanna Devaramani has been recovered. However, the other two boys, Mallappa Basappa Bagali (15) and Paranagouda Mallappa Beelagi (17), remain missing. Search operations are currently underway in the Krishna River to locate them.

Following the incident, local fishermen initiated search efforts immediately after the boys disappeared. The body of Somasekhara was retrieved from the river, and additional resources, including firefighters from Bagalkote, have arrived at the scene to assist in the ongoing search for the two missing youths.

The unfortunate event occurred within the limits of Seethimani village in the Bagalkote taluk, close to the right bank of the Krishna River at the Almatti Dam site. H.R. Patil, the Circle Inspector of Bagalkote, visited the location to oversee the situation.

It has been reported that the boys had ventured to the river to take a bath during the Ugadi celebrations. Unaware of the river's depth, one of the youths fell in, prompting the other two to jump in to save him. This decision, while well-intentioned, led to a tragic outcome as the strong currents took them all.
