Take precautionary measures to prevent rain-related damages as Monsoon begins: Deputy Commissioner

Officers must be alert and make arrangements to avoid any disasters occurring due to heavy rains

With the onset of the monsoon and the possibility of heavy rains in the district, officials must take necessary precautionary measures to prevent rain-related damages, said Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikant Reddy.

 He was addressing a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority held   on Tuesday.

 He said the monsoon has begun, and the Meteorological Department has forecast good rainfall this season. Tahsildars should conduct meetings with taluk-level officers and ensure that in the event of crop damage due to rain, the Agriculture and Horticulture Department officials submit a report within a week.

 Regarding damage to houses, the DC said reports should be submitted based on facts so that appropriate compensation that can be provided. “Funds are available in the PD account, and necessary steps must be taken,” he added.

“There is a higher likelihood of flooding in villages under the Kabini catchment area. Villages that were severely affected last time should be given special attention. In T Narasipura taluk, some villages are prone to flooding. Preparations should be made in advance for evacuations and opening of relief centers in case of floods,” he said.

Zilla Panchayat CEO S Yukesh Kumar, City Corporation Commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif, DCP Mutturaj, Additional District Commissioner Dr P Shivaraju, and other officials were present.

 

Deputy Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy said that there is a greater risk of electric poles falling during the monsoon. CESC officials must be vigilant and ensure immediate repair and restoration of power supply in case of disruption. In taluks like H.D. Kote, Saragur, Nanjangud, and T Narasipura, where higher damage is expected, precautionary measures must be taken. In the event of any loss of life due to rain, compensation should be provided to the family by the respective tahsildars within 24 hours.
