Former Australian cricketer Stuart Law has been appointed as the head coach of Nepal’s men’s cricket team for the next two years. He replaces Monty Desai, whose tenure ended in February after leading the team for two years.

The Cricket Association of Nepal announced Law’s appointment on social media, stating, “Head coach appointed. Australian legend Stuart Law @SLaw365 takes charge of Nepal Men’s National Cricket Team for the next two years!”

Law brings extensive coaching experience, having worked with international teams like Bangladesh, West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. Most recently, he coached the USA men’s team, guiding them to a historic T20I series win over Bangladesh and a spot in the Super Eights of the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, his stint with the USA lasted just over seven months before his departure in October 2024.

As a player, Law represented Australia in 54 ODIs and one Test match. Under his coaching, Bangladesh reached their first-ever Asia Cup final in 2012. He has also served as Australia’s national batting coach and worked with the Under-19 squad.

Nepal’s cricket team, under Desai, experienced growth, securing whitewash victories against the USA and Canada in 2024. However, their performances in major tournaments, including the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI Asia Cup, were less successful.

Law’s first major assignment will be a tri-series against Scotland and the Netherlands in June, as part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. Nepal currently ranks second-last in the League 2 table, making the series crucial for their future prospects.
