Stray Dog Attacks Five in Davanagere Village, Three Children Seriously Injured
DAVANAGERE
Panic gripped B Hosahalli village in Channagiri taluk on Wednesday evening after a stray dog attacked and injured five people, including three children. The victims were identified as Sneha (8), Madan Bhairav (2), Chandrika (3), Suma (30), and Rudramma (65).
The incident occurred when the children were playing in the yard of their house. The stray dog, reportedly from a neighbouring village, first attacked the children and later bit two women working nearby. Villagers suspect the dog came from outside B Hosahalli, located in the Mayakonda Assembly constituency.
The injured were initially given primary care at the Basavapatna Community Health Centre before being shifted to District CJ Hospital for further treatment. One of the girls is said to be in critical condition, and doctors are closely monitoring her progress.
Despite efforts by villagers to capture the stray dog, it managed to escape.
Local MLA Basavanthappa visited the hospital to check on the victims and directed the medical staff to provide prompt and comprehensive care. “If any patient needs further treatment at a private hospital, I will ensure they receive it,” he assured the families.
He emphasized the growing issue of stray dog attacks in rural areas and stressed the need for sterilisation drives to curb their population. “The district administration must take immediate steps to prevent such incidents in the future,” he said.
The MLA also mentioned a similar recent incident in Gudalu village where a child was attacked by a dog and later treated at CJ Hospital.
Villagers are now demanding urgent action from authorities to manage the stray dog menace and prevent further attacks.
