Stopped exporting betel leaves to teach Pakistan a lesson: Farmers
KARWAR
The terrible tragedy of Pahalgam has angered India. The country has taken bold steps to teach a lesson to Pakistan, which supports terrorism. In the wake of this, farmers of Honnavar in Uttara Kannada district have taken a historic decision. They have stopped exporting the precious betel leaves grown in the fertility of their land to Pakistan.
This is not just a business decision, rather, it is a determination to crack down on terrorism and uphold the dignity of the country. This boldness of the farmers of Honnavar is now an example for the entire country. The decision of these farmers, who consider the value of their crop above the interests of the nation, is now being appreciated from everywhere.
Our army has already given a befitting reply through Operation Sindhur. In addition, the central government has also suspended all customary trade with Pakistan.
Delhi traders used to buy betel leaves grown by farmers in the Sharavathi river basin of Honnavar and export them to Pakistan. This has been going on for generations. However, now the central government has banned all goods from going to Pakistan.
Every day, more than 11 tons of betel leaves from Honnavar used to reach Delhi and then reach Pakistan through other routes. But now, the farmers of Honnavar, who have realized this, have banned the sending of betel leaves to traders in Delhi. Due to this, the betel leaves that were going to Pakistan are now being sold in the country's market, and the farmers have imposed a permanent ban with the vow, we will bear the loss even if the price falls.
