The State government is encouraging farmers to grow nutritious cereals, said MLA HA Iqbal Hussain. He was speaking after inaugurating the district-level Millet fair on Saturday.
Earlier, farmers had adopted the grain crop system in their agricultural system. No matter what crop they were growing, they would grow sorghum in one row, and if there was little space on the other side, they would grow arka and red chickpea in areas where there was a lot of water. Over time, people understood the importance of grains and grain fairs have become beneficial for the economic progress of farmers, he said.
District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee, K Raju said that programmes like Cereal Fairs are beneficial for the economic development of farmers. Farmers are indispensable all the time. If they do not cultivate, they will have to face adverse effects.
Urban Development Authority President Chethan Kumar, District Farmers' Association President B Gopal, Taluk President Srinivas, State Representative Ningappa, Treasurer Girish Thota Mane, Magadi President Rangaswamy, Vice Presidents Ningegowda, Shantappa,
District Agriculture Department Deputy Director D Umesh, Joint Directors N Ambika, Ashok, Deputy Director of District Horticulture Department Raju, and many other dignitaries participated. An exhibition of cereal products was organized on the occasion.
The state government is always responding to the difficulties of farmers, for which it is working to encourage farmers to become financially strong by organizing such fairs. Over time, changes in food habits have resulted in diseases such as BP, sugar, etc. If cereals are used in food, one can have good health. There is good encouragement for silk and milk in the district, and farmers should be concerned about cereals. Such programmes will create more awareness among the farmers, MLA Iqbal Hussain said.
