St Philomena's College successfully concludes World Environment Day celebration

St. Philomena's College (Autonomous), Mysore, fruitfully observed World Environment Day on Thursday, with a well-attended event organized jointly by the IQAC, PG Centre, and the Department of Environmental Science.

The celebration focused on this year's crucial theme: "Ending Global Plastic Pollution."

The event underscored the college's commitment to environmental awareness and sustainable practices. The celebration was presided over by Rev. Dr. Lourdu Prasad Joseph, Rector of St. Philomena's College, who reiterated the institution's dedication to fostering environmental consciousness among its students and the wider community.

He highlighted the pressing challenges of environmental degradation and the collective responsibility to address plastic pollution.

Dr. Ravi JD Saldanha, Principal; Rev. Fr. Jnana Pragasam, Administrator; and Rev. Fr. David Sagayaraj S., Assistant to Rector, andb Nagaraj Urs-Vice Principal (academic) all of whom expressed their support for the initiative.

The highlight of the event was the plantation of nearly 300 fruit-bearing saplings by the staff and students on the campus. The program featured various activities aimed at educating participants on the detrimental effects of plastic pollution and promoting practical solutions for waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.

The emphasis on "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" resonated throughout the event, encouraging attendees to adopt more eco-friendly habits in their daily lives.

Thomas Gunaseelan, Coordinator-IQAC, Dr. Noor Mubasheer – PG Coordinator, Dr. Deepa V, Co-Coordinator-IQAC, and Shirley Anthony who spoke, reinforcing the college's ongoing efforts to promote a greener and healthier planet.
