Spicejet Told To Compensate For Lapse In Service
Dharwad
The District Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum had ordered air service provider SpiceJet to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 along with the airfare and expenses towards court fees.
Shakeel Shaukatali Mulla and Mohammed Mavajaan of Dharwad had booked tickets with SpiceJet on December 20, 2021, to fly from Hyderabad to Belagavi. The flight was supposed to depart from Hyderabad at 1:30 pm on the said date.
The complainants said they had reached Hyderabad airport one hour and 15 minutes before departure. Both passengers were denied access to the airport by security at the entrance. Even after repeated requests to the security personnel, they denied permission to enter the airport.
The aggrieved passengers then approached the Forum, stating that this amounted to a lapse in service by SpiceJet.
Hearing the complaint, Forum chairman Eshappa Bhute observed that even though the passengers had arrived at the airport 75 minutes before the departure of the flight, they were denied entry by the security staff, and this amounted to lapses in services by SpiceJet.
It directed the respondent to return the airfare of Rs 8,457, and pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 for creating mental agony. In addition, it required Rs 5,000 towards court fees within 30 days of issuing the order.
