The state government has decided to provide Rs 2,000 as drought relief to drought-hit farmers in the state. However, the farmers of Savanur in the district have expressed their anger over this. They alleged that the government was treating farmers like beggars. He also said that the government should not give Rs 2,000 as compensation to farmers, but he will give Rs 1,000 to the government. Later, more than 50 farmers held a mock demonstration with Rs 500 notes in their hands.
Thousands of rupees were spent on sowing in the pre-monsoon background. The rain had stopped then. Due to the pre-monsoon failure, sowing was done again for the monsoon rains. Even then, due to the grace of rain, the crop had to be lost. At least the land was kept ready for the rabi crop. But the rabi season also gave up. At present, each farmer spends Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 on sowing per acre. We have spent around Rs 25,000 per acre on fertilisers, he said.
The crops sown on loan have been damaged. However, the farmers said they were deeply disappointed that the government had offered them Rs 2,000. The farmers then added Rs 1,000 each and offered to give the money to the tahsildar. They shouted slogans against the government. He accused the state Congress government of treating farmers like beggars.The farmers demanded that the government should give at least Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per acre. The farmers also offered to donate the money to the government through the tehsildar. However, the Savanur Tahsildar, who did not receive the money, said he would write to the government to disburse more compensation to the farmers.
