Social activist files complaint against CM, DCM over RCB stampede
Bengaluru — Days after a horrific stampede during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) IPL victory celebration claimed 11 lives, no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered. Amid growing public anger, social activist Snehamayi Krishna has filed a formal police complaint against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
The complaint, submitted to Cubbon Park Police, alleges that the event was organized hastily for political mileage, without proper planning or security arrangements. It accuses the state government of negligence in holding a mass felicitation in front of Vidhana Soudha and at Chinnaswamy Stadium, leading to avoidable fatalities and injuries.
Krishna has demanded a case be registered under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (new criminal code), holding the Chief Minister, Deputy CM, and KSCA officials accountable for the tragedy.
Adding legal momentum to the fallout, advocate Nataraj Sharma has also announced his intention to file a separate complaint at Vidhana Soudha police station by 12:30 PM today.
Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara, addressing reporters, called the stampede “unprecedented in the state’s cricket history” and confirmed a judicial inquiry had been ordered. The probe will be led by the Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner.
So far, 11 people have died, and 56 others were injured. While 46 have been discharged, 10 remain hospitalized. Fortunately, doctors have confirmed that none are in critical condition.
Public pressure is mounting for legal accountability and transparency as investigations move forward.
