A devastating road accident occurred near Motebennur in Byadgi taluk of Haveri district early Wednesday morning, claiming the lives of six individuals and leaving one person critically injured. The incident took place on National Highway 48, when a speeding car rammed into a stationary truck parked on the roadside. According to police reports, the car collided with the truck from behind, resulting in the instantaneous death of six occupants of the car. Another passenger, who sustained serious injuries, was immediately rushed to the Haveri District Hospital for emergency medical treatment. The condition of the injured individual is said to be critical.
The deceased have been identified as, Faran (27), resident of Harihara, Emmishipa (16), resident of Ranebennur, Alisha (20) and Pulakhan (17), both residents of Panaji, Goa,Two others in the vehicle have been identified as,Ashkeen, from Ranebennur and Firoz injured. The group reportedly consisted of relatives of a bakery owner named Ashok from Ranebennur. They were reportedly traveling together for a personal visit when the accident occurred. Byadgi police officials visited the spot immediately after being informed of the incident. The investigation into the cause of the crash is underway. Preliminary reports suggest high speed and possible driver fatigue may have been contributing factors.
The stationary truck was allegedly parked without proper hazard indicators, raising questions about road safety compliance and the responsibility of heavy vehicle drivers in preventing such tragedies.
