Save Art and Culture of Banjara Community, Urges Folklore University
HAVERI – The Folklore University, along with the Banjara Culture and Language Academy, is actively working to preserve and promote the art, culture, customs, and traditional attire of the Banjara community for future generations, said Shahjahan Mudakavi, Assistant Registrar of the Folklore University.
He spoke at an awareness campaign held in Mamadapura village focused on Banjara literature, culture, art, and education. Mudakavi urged young people to take the lead in safeguarding their heritage to prevent the loss of the community’s rich customs and ideas.
KH Uttam, member of the Banjara Culture and Language Academy, highlighted ongoing vocational training workshops aimed at empowering unemployed youth from the Banjara community across the state, helping them become financially independent.
Gram Panchayat member Lakshman Bendalagatti appealed for pensions for village artists and for providing essential art materials to cultural troupes.
The event was attended by former Gram Panchayat member Devanna Chavan, Krishnappa Nayak, Hanumanthappa Karabari, Kantappa Lamani, Egappa Chavan, Shekappa Rathod, SDMC President Ishwara Lamani, and other community leaders dedicated to preserving Banjara heritage.
