Rs 110 crore property tax collected from gram panchayats, zilla panchayat CEO
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Shinde said that Rs 110 crore property tax was collected from 500 gram panchayats in district in the year 2024-25.
Speaking at an interaction programme organised by the Belagavi Journalists' Association at Varta Bhavan. Rahul Shinde mentioned that property tax was also collected from sugar factories in the district. The pending property tax of Rs 1 crore was collected from the i Sambra Airport Authority. In addition, Rs 45 lakh property tax is being levied every year, he said.
A total of Rs 13 crore was saved due to the illegal disconnection of bore wells in gram panchayats, disconnection of useless borewells, use of LED light bulbs on the streets, and other measures.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREG) Scheme was implemented in all the gram panchayats of the district. Equal wages are being paid to men and women, with 57 percent of women being encouraged. Man-days are being created under the MGNREG scheme. Drainage and school compounds have been built, and local bodies have been given more powers. Employment was created for 1.1 crore local people under the MGNREG scheme, he explained. Earlier, there were some shortcomings under the scheme. An Ombudsman has been appointed, and work is underway to correct the shortcomings.
