Most of the quarries across the state are operating beyond the rules, Rs 6,000 crore fines are pending. Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said that the outstanding fine will be recovered soon and proper legal transparency of quarrying will be provided.

Minister Krishna Byregowda answered the question of Legislative Council Member Narayanaswamy on number of quarries in Kolar, amount of fine collected from them. Illegal quarrying is going on in 85 places in Kolar. However, all the miners here belong to the Dalit community and are not large-scale miners. For the past 50 years, they have been working on removing rocks and slabs in that area. Don't immediately interpret anything else about this work, he said.

Further, all the stone quarries in Kolar have been mining in excess of what is licensed by the government. ThusRs 125 crore including Rs 12 crore royalty is levied.  Besides, illegal quarrying is being done in most places across the state. In the last three years, 485 cases have been registered on the charge of stone transportation without an official license and Rs 2, 060 crore is levied as fine. So far, a total of Rs 6,000 crore is pending   from illegal quarrying to the state, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda informed the Council.
