A reckless bet has ended tragically, as a 21-year-old man lost his life after drinking five bottles of liquor without water.

The incident occurred in Poojarahalli village, Mulbagal taluk, Kolar district. The victim, Karthik (21), had been married for just a year. He accepted a challenge from locals Venkatareddy, Subramani, and three others, betting that he could drink five full bottles of liquor without mixing water in exchange for Rs 10,000.

Confident in his ability, Karthik took on the dare and consumed all five bottles straight, without adding water. Unfortunately, soon after, his health rapidly deteriorated. Realizing the danger, Karthik begged his friends to take him to the hospital. Despite being rushed to Mulbagal hospital, he passed away despite the efforts to save him.

Although it is well-known that drinking large amounts of undiluted alcohol can be fatal, Karthik's friends continued to encourage the bet. Following his death, Karthik’s family filed a complaint against Venkatareddy, Subramani, and the others involved. The police have arrested Venkatareddy and Subramani and are searching for the others.

Karthik’s death is even more heartbreaking as he had just become a father, with his wife having given birth to their child only eight days before his death. His addiction to alcohol and gambling led to his untimely demise, leaving his young wife widowed and his newborn child fatherless. The family is now left to cope with the immense loss.
