Despite the rapid growth of digital platforms, print media continues to hold a place of credibility and trust among the public, said MLA Lakshman Savadi on Monday. He was speaking at the Press Day celebration, felicitation ceremony, and prize distribution event held at SSMS College's Khota Auditorium, organised by the Athani Taluk Working Journalists’ Association.

“In an era dominated by visual media, social media, and YouTube, newspapers still maintain their value by adhering to journalistic ethics and publishing factual, objective news,” Savadi said. He added that trust in print media is built on its commitment to truth and accountability.

Jamkhandi professor Yashwant Y. Kokkanavara delivered a lecture on the challenges faced by journalism today, highlighting the need for media to resist sensationalism and uphold democratic values.

Former MLAs Mahesh Kumathalli and Shahjahan Dongargaon echoed the sentiment, comparing the press to one of the four pillars of democracy, alongside the legislature, executive, and judiciary. “All four must function with integrity to ensure effective governance,” they noted.

The event also saw the felicitation of achievers from various fields and the distribution of prizes to winners of the recent open quiz competition.

Gachchin Math’s Shiva Basava Swamiji, KPP Sangha President Parashuram Nandeshwar, SSMS College President Mallikarjuna Hanji, Principal Prashanth Magadumma, CPI Santosh Hallur, and several social workers participated.
