Pre-wedding shoots banned near Udupi Sri Krishna math
Udupi
The Sri Krishna Math in Udupi, a revered temple with over 800 years of history, sees thousands of devotees and tourists each day. Many visitors traditionally take photos after darshan, but recent trends have sparked concern—particularly the growing number of couples doing pre- and post-wedding photo shoots near the temple premises.
Couples from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Goa have been seen taking romantic pictures near the Kanaka Gopura on Car Street and in front of the eight maths. This has upset many devotees, especially women, and has led to objections from religious leaders.
Responding to the complaints, Paryaya Puthige Math seer Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji has directed temple authorities to stop such photo shoots around the temple. He also instructed photographers to ensure couples avoid romantic poses near the religious site.
Gopalacharya, a scholar from the Puthige Math, emphasized the spiritual importance of Car Street, stating, “Devotees view this space as sacred. Unfortunately, some couples were misusing it for romantic video shoots even early in the morning, which caused discomfort to seers and worshippers. Such actions are inappropriate in temple surroundings.”
The temple management has now taken steps to preserve the sanctity of the space, urging visitors to respect its religious significance and refrain from turning it into a backdrop for romantic shoots.
