Potholes, Muddy Roads, and Traffic Woes: Hirekerur Residents Cry for Help

Poor road conditions in Hirekerur town have made daily life miserable for residents and commuters. With heavy rains lashing the region, already potholed roads have worsened, severely disrupting traffic flow and pedestrian movement.

Except for a few main stretches, most internal roads across the town are riddled with potholes and flooded with stagnant rainwater. Locals say summer brings clouds of dust, while monsoons turn roads into muddy traps.

Residents of Tambaka City are particularly affected, with streets so muddy that even auto-rickshaw drivers refuse to enter the area. “We feel stranded every time it rains,” lamented a local resident.

Basaveshwara Nagar is facing similar problems. The road leading from the 3rd Cross to the Social Welfare Department’s post-matric hostel is severely damaged. Daily commuting has become a challenge for students and others. Roads dug up for the 24x7 drinking water project remain unsealed, worsening the situation.

“The potholes are filled with water. We don't even know where to step,” said one frustrated commuter.

The residents are urging local officials and elected representatives to visit affected areas and take immediate action. “Good quality roads are a basic necessity,” said another local. “We deserve better.”

The onus lies with the local administration to prioritize the repair and maintenance of roads. The public demands long-term solutions—not temporary fixes—to ensure safe and smooth transportation throughout the town.

“Our road is completely potholed and muddy. Even during health emergencies, auto drivers hesitate to come here. We've informed the town panchayat chief officer, members, and even appealed to MLAs several times, but nothing has changed,” complained NM Sankanagoudra, a resident of Basaveshwara Nagar.
