Police Commissioner cautions about accident zone on NH-4

There was a surge in accidents, including fatal ones, in district recently. The number of accidents and the number of people losing their lives in accidents is increasing every year within the limits of Belagavi City Corporation (BCC). The City Police Commissioner, Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, visited many areas under BCC limits and collected information. He visited the Badekoll mutt turnoff area on the national highway, the place where, in the last ten years, 19 people lost their lives and 87 people were injured in accidents. Police officials and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials accompanied him. There were 556 reported road accidents under the jurisdiction of Commissionerate in 2023, resulting in 140 deaths. In 2024, the number of accidents exceeded 600, resulting in more than 200 deaths. Additionally, the recent heavy rainfall has led to accidents. There have also been reports of accidents on the state highways and national highways. Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, said in a statement that he visited the Badekoll mutt accident zone spot with NHAI officials and the deputy commissioner of police.
“We have confirmed that the place is dangerous. In the recent accidents, two people died and four were injured near the Badekoll mutt turnoff area on the national highway,” he said. “Some temporary measures have been taken on the spot. The road needs improvement for long-term relief. The NHAI officials have taken over the responsibility of this work. Until NHAI improves the road, the only solution is to drive slowly and carefully at this spot. We have released a video by the police department to create awareness about the accident zone near Badekoll mutt. We are requesting everyone to help create awareness about this place,” he added.
