Winning or losing is natural in sports, but participation is what truly matters. It is encouraging that specially-abled individuals are now achieving success in sports and winning awards, which in turn boosts their self-confidence, said MLA GT Devegowda.
Speaking at the Karnataka Wheelchair Cricket Championship held at the Mysore University Sports Pavilion, he said that earlier, specially-abled individuals used to lag behind not only in education but also in sports and other activities.
While the general public and students participate in cricket, kabaddi, and other games, cricket stands out as a major and physically demanding sport. You have shown through your participation that you are no less than anyone else, even in adventurous sports, Devegowda said.
The MLA said previously, there was a perception that specially-abled individuals couldn't do anything with their hands. But now you have proven that you are no less than others by taking part in sports. You have shown everyone that through sports, you can excel in any field and have instilled confidence in others as well.
He praised the participants for representing Karnataka at both national and international levels, bringing recognition to the state.
He expressed happiness that participants from various districts of Karnataka showcased their talents in this event. Specially-abled individuals are not cursed; they are God’s gifted children. If they are given a platform and opportunities, they can demonstrate their talent and capabilities just like anyone else.
