In a troubling incident in Kalakeri village of Kanakgiri taluk, parents of a bride have reportedly threatened a newly married couple who were in a love marriage, prompting police intervention for their protection.

Shivkumar and Pavitra, who have been in love for the past six years, belong to the same caste. Despite opposition from the bride’s family regarding their marriage, the couple went ahead with their wedding.

Shivkumar works as an electrician on a contract basis at the BBMP in Bengaluru, while Pavitra is a second-year BA student. Being from the same village, they were acquainted with each other, and their friendship eventually blossomed into love. Despite the family's disapproval, they wed on February 17th at the Adivi Amareshwara Temple in Kookanpalli.

Upon learning of the marriage, Pavitra's parents allegedly threatened Shivkumar and his family, as stated by Shivkumar. They were unhappy with Pavitra marrying Shivkumar, as they were in the process of looking for another groom.

Faced with her family's search for a different match, Pavitra fled from home to be with Shivkumar. After realizing she had left, her parents filed a missing complaint at the Kanakgiri police station. However, upon finding out that she had married Shivkumar, they became even more enraged and threatened both of them over the phone. The situation escalated when they visited Shivkumar’s home to intimidate his parents as well.

Consequently, the couple approached the SP office, seeking protection and appealing for the freedom to live together, stating, "We got married with mutual consent and love."
