Online cricket betting bookie arrest. Rs 22.45 lakh cash seized
Yadgir
In a significant operation, a man engaged in online cricket betting was arrested in Devatakallu village of Surapura taluk, with authorities seizing Rs 22.45 lakh in cash during the investigation, as reported by DySP Javeed Inamdar.
In a briefing at the DySP office, Inamdar revealed that on April 2, an IPL match was being played when the accused, Ninnganna Haiyalappa Hulikeri (37), openly promoted his betting services via mobile phone.
He was reportedly offering odds, stating that if Royal Challengers Bangalore won, a bet of Rs 1,000 could yield Rs 5,000, and if Gujarat won, Rs 1,000 could earn Rs 10,000.
The suspect had bank accounts with Pragathee Grameena Bank at Vajjala and Canara Bank in Kakkera and Surapura, all of which have now been frozen to prevent any further money transfers. Inamdar noted that this is one of the largest cases of online cricket betting in Yadgir district.
Mobile devices used in the operation have been confiscated, and the police are currently gathering information about others connected to Hulikeri. The seized cash will be handed over to judicial custody as part of the investigation.
