Officials take action to address water scarcity in villages
Kalaburagi
Deputy Commissioner B Fouzia Tarannum and Zilla Panchayat CEO Bhanvarasingh Meena visited villages in Alanda and Afzalpur taluks to assess water scarcity issues. These areas face severe groundwater depletion every summer, making drinking water availability a major concern. The officials interacted with villagers to understand their difficulties and inspect ongoing water supply arrangements.
In Sarasamba village, Aland taluk, they examined a rented well, followed by visits to Savaleshwar, Madanahipparaga, Ambewada, and Zalaki villages. Plans were made to supply drinking water through rented private borewells and wells. During discussions in Savaleshwar, DC Fouzia stressed the importance of water conservation and urged villagers to implement rainwater harvesting in schools, hospitals, offices, and homes. She advised against water wastage, highlighting the collective responsibility of preserving resources.
Technical experts conducted water analysis in the village, confirming that a private borewell’s water was fluoride-free and safe for drinking. Officials informed the DC that the initiative is part of a larger project led by Karnataka State Policy and Planning Commission Vice Chairman and MLA BR Patil, which includes check dam constructions across nine locations.
In Garuru (B) village, Afzalpur taluk, DC Fouzia ordered officials to stop using a fluoride-contaminated borewell and arrange a safe drinking water supply from a nearby rented well. She instructed officials to utilize 15th Finance Commission funds and inspect tap connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission at Machanal Tanda.
