Notorious robber injured in police shooting attempt

A notable incident occurred in the Mundargi taluk, involving a notorious robber who attempted to flee after a violent encounter with the police. The incident took place in the villages of Dambala and Doni while the suspect was being transported to the Lakshmeshwar police station.

The notorious suspect, Jayasinha Modker, suffered gunshot wounds to his leg, while police personnel were also injured in the incident. Both he and the injured police staff were admitted to Gadag JIMS hospital for treatment.

Jayasinha Modker, along with accomplice Manjunath Modker, was wanted by state and interstate police for their involvement in various robbery cases. They had initially been contacted through Instagram, showcasing the audacity of their gang. However, they ultimately fell into a trap laid by the Gadag police.

The police managed to apprehend Jayasinha near Vijayapura district the previous day. While being transported to the Lakshmeshwar police station, he attacked police officer Veeresh Bisnalli with a weapon he had concealed, attempting to escape. In response, CPI Manjunath Kusugal fired at Jayasinha's leg, successfully subduing him.

Jayasinha Modker is known for involvement in several cases, including home thefts and robberies. Gadag SP B.S. Nemagouda visited the hospital to inquire about the health of both the injured suspect and the police personnel.
