People express their patriotism in different ways. Some may express their love for the nation on social media, while others show it more openly.
A photo studio owner on the busy D. Devaraja Urs Road in Mysuru has adopted a unique way to exhibit his patriotism—by framing and prominently displaying pictures of two women defence officers who appeared on national television during 'Operation Sindoor' following the Pahalgam tragedy. In that incident, 26 innocent tourists were gunned down by Pakistan-backed terrorists in South Kashmir in April this year.
Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyumika Singh became national role models when they efficiently and gracefully executed the responsibilities entrusted to them. Their daily press briefings during Operation Sindoor earned them widespread admiration, with lakhs of Indians beginning to follow the duo as inspirational figures. People in Karnataka were particularly proud, as Col. Sofia Qureshi is the proud daughter-in-law of Belagavi—her husband hails from the border district of the state.
The photo studio owner has framed photographs of Col. Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyumika Singh and boldly displayed them in front of his shop on the bustling Devaraja Urs Road.
When this reporter asked the reason behind the display, the owner said, “This is my way of showing respect to two great women who are worth emulating by our girl students.”
Asked whether the photo frames are for sale, he replied, “They are not for sale. This is my prized possession. Through this, I want people to develop real patriotism.”
