HAVERI
The health condition of more than 50 people, who had taken ill after consuming contaminated food during a reception at Chapparadalli village in Rattihalli taluk of the district, has started improving. The villagers alleged that though so many people fell ill after consuming contaminated food, no doctor came to the 35-bed hospital in Rattihalli taluk hospital immediately.
Three of those who consumed the contaminated food fell seriously ill and were admitted to Hirekerur hospital. Of the three who fell seriously ill, one was a woman and two were pregnant women and were being treated further at Hirekerur hospital. Meanwhile, the villagers of Chapparadahalli and the sick have expressed their anger that they did not get treatment as there were no doctors when they came to Rattihalli hospital.
The villagers are angry that they were in front of DHO Raghavendraswamy, who had come to interrogate the patients. They insisted that immediate action be taken against the doctors and another doctor should be appointed to the hospital. Speaking on the occasion, the DHO said that there have been several allegations against Dr Pushpa Banakar in the past as well. They were told to improve on this. However, since she continued with his earlier behaviour, she has been sent on compulsory leave from.
Stating that Dr Lokesh, who had earlier worked as a doctor in Rattihalli for five years, has been transferred to Rattihalli Hospital, the DHO said that more than 50 people developed vomiting after consuming contaminated food or contaminated water during a dinner at Chapparadahalli village. Everyone is healthy and will be discharged this evening. Raghavendraswamy said that the three seriously ill have been kept in the hospital and are being monitored.
