District Superintendent of Police Uma Prashant emphasized that the Honnali Police Station, now modernized with high-tech facilities, serves as a model for the district. She mentioned that for the police to inspire the public, the atmosphere of the station should be inviting and positive. “If the police personnel are to perform their duties as a source of inspiration, the atmosphere of the station should also be beautiful,” she said.
During her address, Prashant pointed out that public perceptions of the police are often negative, with many assuming that all officers are the same when one person misbehaves. She reminded the public that the purpose of a police station is to help those in need. Reflecting on a past robbery in Nyamati, she proudly shared how the police officers found the criminals and returned stolen jewelry, including many Mangalya chains.
Prashant also urged the public to install CCTV cameras in their homes and commercial spaces for safety. “One CCTV camera is like a guard in a house,” she stated.
She highlighted the collaborative efforts between the police and the public, mentioning the creation of the ‘Joint Hands’ committee, which includes 31 local members helping with night patrols and traffic duties.
MLA DG Shanthanagowda also praised the loyalty of the police officers, acknowledging their commitment to keeping investigations confidential.
