BAGALKOT: As a precautionary measure for situations akin to war and emergencies, a mock civil defence operation was conducted on district administration building premises. A scenario was created where dummy bullet sounds and bomb explosion were heard, resulting in several casualties. Rescue operations were carried out without delay. The sound of dummy bullets exploding in various locations was heard, causing panic among the officers and staff in the administration building. Information about terrorists entering the building was sent to the police control room. Police, fire brigade, home guards, traffic police, and NCC command teams took part in the mock rescue operation, raising awareness among the public. The drill also educated people on how to respond when sirens sound during emergencies, what to do in case of a bomb explosion, how to rescue those trapped under debris, and how to provide emergency medical services. Deputy Commissioner KM Janaki said that amidst nationwide fears of war, a mock drill was conducted to review the district administration's preparedness regarding material, basic facilities, health required for civilian protection. Superintendent of Police Amarnath Reddy said that mock drills are being conducted to raise awareness about civil safety as per government directives.

Over 300 participants, including police, home guards, fire brigade, bomb disposal squad, dog squad, traffic police, NCC commanders, and various departmental officers and staff took part. District-level officers were present. District In-charge Secretary Mohammad Mohsin said, following the directives of the central and state governments, mock drills are being conducted nationwide, and one such drill was held in the district. The exercise aimed to identify what more could be done in such operations and to emphasise the need for everyone's participation in emergencies, he said.
