Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has stopped all ongoing gas pipeline laying projects following numerous complaints about the substandard restoration of roads dug up for the work.

MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif stated that the Council decided no further permissions will be granted to pipeline contractors until they deposit funds for repairing the damaged roads. These agencies had been authorized to dig roads as part of the Union government’s ambitious plan to supply piped LPG to households, with Mysuru among a few selected cities.

However, the corporation began receiving citizen complaints, especially regarding roads like Jhansi Lakshmibai Road, where restoration work was poor. Broken stones and craters have resurfaced, causing inconvenience and hazards for motorists and pedestrians alike. Similar issues were reported across various city locations.

In response to public outcry, MCC halted all pipeline-related digging until restoration fees are deposited upfront by the agencies. This directive was communicated formally after the Council meeting, but no response has been received from the contractors so far.

Commissioner Asif emphasized that no further work will be permitted without upfront payment towards road restoration, ensuring better accountability and quality repairs for Mysuru’s roads.
