Mayor Orders Cleanup of Nucchambali Bhavi for Ganesh Idol Immersion
DHARWAD
With Ganesh Chaturthi around the corner, the century-old Nucchambali Bhavi in Hosayellapur is being revived for idol immersion, following years of neglect and misuse as a dumping site.
The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC), facing pressure from Mahamandals after a ban on immersing idols in natural water bodies, has taken up the task of restoring the open well to accommodate large idols. While mobile immersion tanks have been arranged with the support of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), these are only suitable for household idols and not the larger ones used by Mahamandals.
In response to a petition from Mahamandal representatives, Mayor Jyothi Patil and HDMC Commissioner Rudresh Ghali inspected Nucchambali Bhavi and reviewed ongoing cleaning efforts. The revival of the historic site is expected to provide a much-needed alternative for traditional idol immersion, easing the concerns of devotees and organisers.
