Man gets stuck in lift at District Hospital
Haveri
A tense situation unfolded at the Haveri district hospital when Manjunath, who had accompanied a patient, got stuck in a stalled lift. The lift stopped midway between the first and second floors, leaving Manjunath panicked until fire brigade personnel arrived and successfully rescued him.
The incident has sparked public outrage, with many blaming the hospital's technical staff for neglecting routine maintenance. Locals allege that the lift has been malfunctioning frequently, and no action has been taken despite repeated complaints. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Haveri Nagar Police Station.
This mishap has brought attention to other ongoing problems at the district hospital. Serving over 300 patients daily from across eight taluks, the hospital is seen as a lifeline for poor families who cannot afford private healthcare. However, patients and their families have complained about inadequate medical staff, lab and scanning facilities.
Relatives of expectant mothers are especially worried. "Doctors advise us to get regular scans to check the baby’s development. But due to limited scan slots, we are told to come next month or visit a private center. How can we wait if something serious happens?” a patient’s relative asked.
The hospital’s failure to provide timely services leaves many helpless, as they cannot afford private care. The recent lift incident has only added to the growing frustration of patients relying on government health services.
