Karnataka pushes for biofuel biogas as "Non-Polluting" category

Efforts are underway to classify biofuel biogas as a "Non-Polluting (White Category)" product in Karnataka. SE Sudheendra, Chairman of the Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board, shared that discussions with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) have been successful, and a directive will soon be issued in this regard.
Speaking at a consultation event organized by the Bioenergy Development Board, Sudheendra highlighted the industry's push for bioenergy inclusion in the White Category, as it is already classified by the Central Pollution Control Board. Industry representatives emphasized the importance of increasing bioenergy usage and urged the state to follow the central government's lead.
Sudheendra also encouraged investors to tap into Karnataka’s vast potential for bioenergy production, mentioning the state’s supportive infrastructure, tax incentives, and abundant raw materials like Napier grass and agricultural waste. He assured investors of the Bioenergy Development Board's full cooperation.
The event, focused on Karnataka’s Bioenergy Policy, was attended by various experts, including Board officials and technical consultants, who discussed ways to further the state’s role as a leader in the bioenergy sector.
