Legislative Council Speaker Basavaraj Horatti has assured that the Karnataka state government will provide financial assistance if Kannadigas in Oman come together to build a Kannada Bhavan in Muscat. Horatti made this announcement while inaugurating the Muscat Border Festival, an event organized by the Border Cultural Academy Kasargod in collaboration with the Kannada organizations in Oman and the Karnataka Border Region Development Authority.

Horatti further explained that if a site for the Kannada Bhavan is identified in Muscat, it would be easier to secure the necessary funding for the project. He promised to personally approach the Chief Minister and discuss the matter to ensure financial support for the initiative.

During his speech, Horatti expressed deep admiration for the Kannadigas living in Oman, acknowledging their unwavering love and commitment to preserving the Kannada language and culture in a foreign land. “Their dedication has truly filled my heart,” he said, referring to the large number of Kannadigas in Oman who are actively contributing to the promotion of their heritage.

Somanna Bevinamarada, President of the Karnataka Border Area Development Authority, shared that the authority will honor and recognize female teachers in Oman who have been volunteering to teach Kannada to local children. Additionally, free Kannada textbooks will be provided to support these educational efforts.

Shivananda Tagadur, President of the Karnataka Journalists’ Association, also praised the efforts of the Kannadigas in Oman, highlighting their work not just in preserving the Kannada language, but also in acting as cultural ambassadors. The event also saw the felicitation of the women teachers involved in teaching Kannada, and cultural performances were held by local teams, including Tirtha Kateel and Reshtha Hitesh.

The event marked a significant step in furthering the cultural and educational ties between Karnataka and the Kannadiga community in Oman.
