BELAGAVI
Rajeev Krishna Metri, a Kannadiga councillor representing Northwell Ward in the Luton Borough Council, United Kingdom, was felicitated in Belagavi by Deputy Mayor Vani Vilas Joshi during his visit to attend the BEAMS program.
Originally hailing from Daddi village in Hukkeri taluk, Rajeev moved to the UK in 2001 for higher education. Over the past two decades, he established himself professionally and socially, eventually gaining the trust of the community and being elected as a councillor.
At the felicitation ceremony, Rajeev shared insights into the administrative systems of the UK and the role of elected councillors in addressing local governance and community welfare.
His wife, Reena Rajeev Metri, is a staff nurse and was a frontline worker during the COVID-19 pandemic. She contracted the virus while working in a government hospital but recovered through medical care, breathing exercises, and yoga.
Apart from his political role, Rajeev Metri is actively involved in community service. He serves as a treasurer and executive committee member of Kannada Balaga UK, an organisation that has served the British Kannada diaspora for 38 years. His election as councillor was celebrated by the UK Kannada community as a proud achievement for Kannadigas abroad.
The event in Belagavi recognised his accomplishments and contributions both in the UK and within the global Kannada community.
