“The media should become windows for truth instead of becoming windows for rumours,” said KV Prabhakar, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister. He was speaking while inaugurating the Press Day celebrations organised by District Journalists’ Association. “Earlier, when rumours spread in the society, people used to watch the media to know the truth. Now, since the media itself has succumbed to rumours, people do not know the difference between truth and lies,” he said.
He said that the priorities of the journalism profession have now been turned upside down, with development-investigative journalism gone and only statement journalism remains. He said, “Fake news and speculative journalism create a very dangerous situation for the society. Killing the truth without any care in the rush to give news first is detrimental to professionalism.”
He appealed that relationships and society should not be broken in the rush of breaking news. Even when there was a shortage of income in journalism, there was no poverty for the truth. Now there is no shortage of income, he expressed regret that the truth has become poor.
“When the Chief Minister listed the many demands of the journalists, he first took up the issue of bus passes for rural journalists. Because the Chief Minister knows that the professionalism of rural journalists is very important for Mahatma Gandhiji's dream of Gram Swarajya to come true. The Chief Minister has observed that real reporting and caring reports are mostly being reported by rural journalists. Therefore, the Chief Minister has high expectations from rural journalists. He said that I hope that this expectation will not be false,”he added
